The mechanism of the Pink Zippo lighter works as simply as a regular Zippo lighter. When the thumb wheel is flicked, it creates friction with the batt that houses the fuel, which is called naphtha. The friction will then cause a spark and eventually ignite the wick. As long as the lid of the lighter is open, the wick will stay lit and in the same way, the flame will be extinguished as soon as the cover is closed.
